The HR department at my new school sent us information about neighbourhoods that expats typically live in. They had current employees make videos to talk about where they live and what they like about it. The HR department had us pick two neighbourhoods we were interested in and they looked for apartments for us.
They put me in touch with a single woman who currently lives in Vila Nova Conceição which borders Ibirapuera Park, which is compared to Central park in NYC. Sao Paulo has some huge safety issues and this is a really nice neighbourhood that is relatively safe. It's going to be about a 25-30 minute Uber ride to school every day. The woman is leaving in June so I get her apartment!! It is $6 under my housing allowance - which is amazing considering how exclusive this area is. She said you can walk around to restaurants, stores, etc.
She sent some pictures and it looks super cute - far more character than my current apartment. My favourite part? It has an actual proper bathroom with a SHOWER STALL. My current bathroom has a shower head in between the toilet and sink and the water just goes everywhere and you can't go in there the rest of the day unless to towel the toilet off and risk slipping on the floor.
The is also a half bath and a 2nd bedroom so I am totally ready for visitors to Brazil!!!
